Title: Five Times Jack Didn't Say Anything (And One Time It Was Felix)
Rating: PG
Summary: Jack and Felix pine like a forest.
Notes: Awkward pining ahoy!

1. hot dogs

Jack had never been a sports person, to his dad's disappointment; that was more Miranda's field. But he did like hot dogs, so when the vendor came by he put his hand up and bought a couple to share with Felix.

Arena hot dogs were awful. He loved them immediately.

Beside him, Felix bit into his and made a face. "This is disgusting," he said, and then, "Oh, come on, is the ref blind, that was a foul!"

"I'll eat it," Jack said, instead of 'you're amazing,' and settled in to watch Felix's face. Much more interesting than the game.

2. tea

"You've never had a cup of tea?" Felix asked, his voice that particular high-pitched tone it only got when he was particularly astonished.

Jack shrugged. "No, never. It's more my sister's thing."

"Charlotte," Felix predicted, and was visibly more astonished when Jack said, "No, Andy."

"Whatever," he went on, "shut up and drink your tea. It's jasmine green, everybody likes jasmine green."

Jack was somewhat more skeptical about that, but he drank his tea, watching Felix's face change as he did. The tea was okay, kinda tasty, but Felix was...

Well.

He swallowed back the words, and said, "It's great."

3. molletes

"These are easy," Jack told Felix, dicing tomatos. "My abuelita taught me when I was a kid, so you can learn in like, ten minutes. Chop that onion."

Felix made a face, his nose wrinkling adorably, and said, "What if I don't want to learn?" Still, he started chopping the onion.

"Ah, damn," he said, later, and Jack turned to catch him wiping tears away. "Fucking onion."

"Here, let me," and he wiped the tears away with his thumb. Felix stared at him open-eyed, so close Jack could lean in and kiss him...

He cleared his throat, and turned away.

4. beef stew with dumplings

Felix dished the stew out, ladling carefully it over the dumplings. "This is the only dish I can really do well," he told Jack. "So, you know. Go easy."

"Please," Jack said, "like you do anything badly." He waited until Felix sat down-- some of Grandmother Hennessy's lessons had been useful-- and took a bite.

Heaven. The dumplings were just the right balance of solid and fluffy, the beef was tender, the stew thick and perfect. He groaned, and surprised a peculiar look on Felix's face when he opened his eyes.

He could have asked.

He ate another bite instead.

5. churros

Felix came back with a pair of churros, easing his way through the crowds of tourists and kids in Mickey Mouse ears. "Here you go," he said, handed one of them over. "I couldn't resist. They're so good."

Jack ate half of it in one bite, and scoffed with his mouth full. Felix gave him an amused look; he swallowed and added, "These aren't real churros. I'll take you to Mexico someday, get you the real thing."

"Really," Felix said, that peculiar look on his face again.

Jack swallowed again, awkwardly, and said, "Yeah. These are really good though."

"Yeah."

6. ice cream

That night while they waited for Miranda to come out of surgery, Felix took Jack down to the hospital cafeteria, fed him ice cream, and told him jokes until he finally started to smile. He knew Miranda would make it, and he figured it was his job to keep Jack together until she did.

He looked at Jack, smiling through his tears, ice cream cone melting over his hand, and wanted to say there is a city in your eyes, you are perfect as you are, I love you.

But it was the worst possible timing, so he said nothing.
