Thomas Hennessy Senior died before I met Christopher. Nancy outlived him by twenty-one years, and I grudge her every one of them.
It was not really that I resented what Nancy did to me. I think she did not consider me worth her time, and she generally ignored me. I disliked her for that. I hated her for what she did to my children.
The funeral home smells like embalming fluid and dying flowers. In her coffin, Nancy Hennessy looks as if she's made of wax, makeup, and rich clothes.
It's terrible to say, but I'm glad that bitch is dead.
